AI-generated content may be incorrect. My art practice consists of expressing my connections with the natural environment in which I live, most recently around the Gippsland region. My inspiration comes while discovering much of what Gippsland has within it, from snowy high country, in valleys and up through the Strzelecki Ranges and on to the sea, the region is vast and beautiful. My favourite areas though, are where the towering Mountain Ash trees are to be found. These species are unique to Victoria and Tasmania.  This magnificent tree is known as the world’s tallest plant, reputed to grow a metre a year, soaring from the forest floor, they truly are a spectacle.

Back in the studio I use a variety of materials to enable me to recreate what has impressed me visually and I work intuitively and react to the marks on the canvas which keeps the work spontaneous and fresh. I aim to invoke feelings of connection to nature for the viewer as well as my own quiet connection that I have.

This quote from an unknown source has always resonated with me,

‘The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man, these places feed our souls’
